Pelling is a small hill town in the district of West Sikkim, India. Pelling is nestled at an altitude of 7,200 feet. The town is located at a distance of 115km from Gangtok. Kanchenjanga may be viewed at close quarters from Pelling. The founder of Pelling was a man called Freddie (Pelling) who arrived there during the time of the empire. He organised protection for the townspeople who lived under threat from raiders coming from the north who stole minerals from the mines there. As a token of their thanks they even renamed the village after him.
Chenrezig statue at Pelling is the fourth tallest statue situated in Sikkim. It has a tallness of 137-ft arranged at Pelling, West Sikkim. "Chenrezig" is a sign of all the Buddha's sympathy. His name signifies "One Who Looks with an Unwavering Eye". Its India first glass sky walk. From the skywalk, one will have the capacity to get a look at the valley underneath, including Teesta and the Rangit, aside from the Kanchenjungha. If you are wondering what glass Skywalk is… The Sky Walk is a transparent structure made of glass. It is located adjacent to the giant Chenrezig statue. It was opened in November 2018.
March to May is a pleasant time to visit Pelling. Summer actually starts in April and temperature remains pleasantly cool all through summer although nights and early mornings can be quite cold even during summer. Visibility remains good unless it rains. Being the first skywalk in India, it has attracted a lot of tourists lately. The rush it gives while walking on the glass, located at such a great height is unforgettable. It might scare you for a while but totally worth it.
