The Singapore Zoo was initially called as the Singapore Zoological Gardens or the Mandai Zoo. It is now commonly known as the Singapore Zoo. It occupies 28 hectares i.e. 69 acres on the margins of Upper Seletar Reservoir within the heavily forested central catchment area. Singapore Zoo was built by the fund granted by the Government of Singapore and opened on 27.06.1973. Here birds and animals are kept in spacious and landscaped enclosures which separated from the visitors by dry and wet moats. The moats are concealed with vegetation or dropped below the line of sight. The dangerous animals that can climb well are housed in landscaped glass-fronted enclosures. Many shows such as King of the Skies show, High Flyers Show, Dining with Parrot etc. are being held every day at this Zoo for the use of visitors.
