The Tamilnadu Government Botanical Gardens was formed in 1847 . It is well maintained by the Government. A 20 million year old tree, an Italian-style garden bordering a clear pool, a variety of flowering bushes and plants in Fern house are the highlights of this garden. A flower show together with an exhibition of rare plant species is being held every year in month of May at this garden. Apart from Botanical Gardens, there are many more sight seeing places in the Ooty. They are Rose Garden, Tea Factory and Tea Museum, Pine Forest, Pycara Dam and Falls, Pycara River and Boating etc. In addition to the Ooty, the SIM's Park in Coonoor is also must visit place as it is a Natural Garden and the model of Ashoka Pillar within the two coloured rings made of little Plants are worth seeing.
